Right here here here.Before the Bowery was the Bowery it was the Indians' road to Peter Stuyvesant's bouwerij (or farm). But the streets of New York are always changing. During the American Revolution this skirmish-scene street was the only access from the sea. By the end of the 18th century it had become a fashionable promenade with many houses along the street. From 1860 however it was transformed into a district of warehouses and beer gardens. From here the Bowery became Skid Row for everyone, a street of cheap hotels and saloons with cheap whiskeys. Eventually several restaurant equipment and lighting stores moved here. In 1973 the country blue grass and blues music club BGB arrived and soon became the capital of underground rock & roll. Today at least one hotel (the Pioneer) along with a handful of abandoned buildings remain as objects of bygone times. But the still disheveled Bowery neighborhood is once again changing. An NYU student residence has just opened here. The tech-savvy Remote Lounge is next door to the laid-back Asian restaurant Daily How which is across the street from the contemporary Spanish restaurant Sala which is down the street. Raf is a chic handbag shop. There's a certain type of man or woman who wants to go unnoticed /a doesn't necessarily live in the Bowery but appreciates its upbeat vibe. This contrary bastian doesn't like to be flashy in terms of fashion and accessories. He or she is an anti-fragrance type... but a type who could almost respond to an anti-perfume perfume. Nouveau Bowery is a particular perfume. It doesn't smell like perfume, it's almost an unripe anti-perfume with lime, basil and thyme. Even the flowers contained (wild lily and papilionacea violet) and the supposedly calming base notes (patchouli, oakmoss and vetiver) are dissonant. What a seductive fragrance for an anti-fragrance type determined to go against the grain!
