A crisp, saturated spicy floral that pierces a voluminous plumpness evident on the skin. It is a liquid that smells like it has been soaked in petals edged with saffron and patchouli, in a palette that veers from fresh rose territory to vintage, like blowing the dust off a good red wine.

Its first inhale captures a moment just after dusk on a languid late autumn evening, when the opening of a door brings a waft of a bouquet that breaks the stagnant air. This rose is not a deep red or a pale pink but a pastel purple so pale it almost looks gray. Its petal edges are just beginning to curl, tilting and opening, with a fullness that mimics the shape of a bulbous teacup, filled with rich spices and bits of rare wood.

Its composition was inspired by the still life aesthetics of AEDES PERFUMERY, a location in the Lower East Side of New York dove abundant compositions spill out of plump vases next to feathered taxidermy and vintage fabrics. There is incense in the air and probably a blotter under the nose. The name comes from a variety of rose grown in France. Although its smell is faint, its image evokes a vintage look that has been translated into AMNESIA ROSE.

Perfumer Luca Maffei spent years capturing the essence of perfumery in a bottle, building up peppery, mysterious tones over time and making sure he created something that would work on everyone’s skin. “This is an intense rose, whose personality never fades and, above all, never goes unnoticed,” says Maffei. To create a long-lasting bloom with woody spices, he paired Moroccan rose absolute and Bulgarian rose essence with cypriol oil, saffron and succulent bushman shrub candela. The fizzy scent of pink pepper is immediately noticeable; but the initial brilliance of AMNESIA ROSE is soon replaced by a satiny density that continues until it meets a dry, earthy cushion of labdanum, patchouli and oud.

AEDES DE VENUSTAS AMNESIA ROSE comes in a fluted glass bottle featuring peacock blue accents, a matte black cap with a printed crest, and a sleek yet weighty design. As Bradl says, “It’s a rose for everyone.”
