Initially launched in 1882, Fougère Royale completely revolutionized the world of perfumery and established modern perfumery as we know it today. Fougère Royale was the first “fougère” (or fern-like) fragrance ever conceived, establishing an entirely new fragrance family that remains the most renowned olfactory family in men’s fragrances to this day.
Even more importantly, was the fact that Houbigant It was the first perfume house to discover a way to isolate particular molecules starting from natural raw materials, in particular coumarin, which is extracted from tonka beans.
Today, in line with the past, the Maison Houbigant has revisited this extraordinary classic with an elegant and contemporary style.
The formula has been masterfully reworked in collaboration with the nose Rodrigo Flores-Roux, chief perfumer of Givaudan.
Fougere Royale begins with an energizing citrus cocktail that blends with a bouquet of Mediterranean herbs, dove Lavender essential oil and Moroccan chamomile mark the time.
The fresh opening is followed by a redundant heart, in which the spicy flower accord “Rondeletia” is revealed by rich nuances of Geranium and warm spices. A floral interlude created with rare Rose absolutes is warmed by Pepper, Cinnamon and Clove.
The grand finale consists of a harmony of woody and amber tones, in which Oakmoss blends with sensual Patchouli, Coumarin, enriched with Tonka Bean and Sage absolutes.
